The new LFG system has left us with some cool ideas.  This particular post is based off of an idea we were tossing around in guild.  The idea is to challenge your group, specifically your tanks and healers will be put to the test.  What’s the 15 minute challenge?  Turn the page and lets see shall we?

The goal of the 15 minute challenge is to see if you can turn your party loose on the world faster than the cooldown on the LFG tool.  So in theory, the second you accept, and it teleports you into the instance, your 15 minute debuff starts that prevents you from going to a new instance using the tool.  So your goal…is to beat that timer.

Rule #1:  All BOSSES MUST DIE

You can’t just walk into some place like Halls of Stone, kill the one boss, kill the final boss and out.  Every boss must die.  You don’t have to kill every bit of trash.  The goal is all bosses.. period end of story.

RULE #2:  Timer stops the second the final boss keels over dead.

Yes… you beat your way through all mobs.. look up.. is the debuff on you?

Here are some quick tips and tricks.

  1. Be overgeared.  Expect that you’re going to not need anything in the instance.
  2. Looting is Optional…. it will slow you down.  Loot’ is stuck to green when you use the tool… so…. you’ll see it if someone clicks on it anyways.
  3. Pull, Pull, Pull…. I only recommend stopping if your healer is running on empty.  Most heroics do not require everyone to be at full mana before you pull the boss.
  4.  Burn cooldowns… don’t hold them for a rainy day… if you can hold two packs of mobs and AOE tank them if you burn a cooldown, DO IT!
  5. Consider dropping a healer.  Have your healer DPS and just hard burn the instance.

Now some instances won’t lend themselves to a speed run.  COT Stratholme?  Not gonna happen.  You spend so much time waiting in between waves, or waiting for Arthas to catch up to you, that you’re not likely to pull it off.  The new instances would be hard to pull off unless you’re doing Forge of Souls.

Otherwise… challenge yourself… challenge your group… pull pull pull and have a blast!!!

I’ll be honest, I don’t like this challenge at all. In fact this seems to be the expectation of just about every PUG I get into as tank. Powerpull, go go go! Healers pulling and DPSing more than healing, giving no one time to loot, just go go go, this is the emblem factory of 2009. This is an artificial tank challenge and no real fun IMHO. A challenge is something that tries and taxes you in new ways.

A part of me is waiting for the emblem rush to be over, so that I can play with people who want to invest more than 15 minutes into a run.

Crackhead Bear! But glad you are having fun!

I gave up on the new LFG tool because burning through trivial content for the sole purpose of acquiring tokens for better gear is not my idea of fun.

I love this idea. We pushed Nexus in 16 minutes with a tank and 4 DPS. Lets face it, we all need Frost tokens, I even need a few triumph for my healing set. But heroics are bring. They were exciting when we first hit them in blues and greens, but we outgear them so much now there is no chance of death….without trying to do stupid stuff.

Hence, the 15 minute challege is something that has brought fun back into heroics for me. How fast can we push? How much trash can I hold as a tank, with no one to heal me? Can my dps kill them before they kill be?

Fun comes froma challege. Heroics are no challenge, but are necesary for the emblems they drop.

Ok so I came really close in Forge of Souls, off by about 1 min.
Damn you star, I didn’t need a new challenge!

I’ll be honest, I like moving quickly when tanking, but I’m not trying to break land-speed records or anything.
I keep moving, but I also try and make sure that my group is keeping up reasonably well. (Kinda have to as a warrior really, since we don’t have much in the way of self-healing, and our DPS is probably weaker than any other tanking class) That said, I’ll usually grab a pat that I see coming questionably close, or anything like that.
Would I like to push through at break-neck speeds? Yeah, sorta, but not with random people, I’d need dependable people, not the mixed bag that I get through the LFD tool. Honestly, while it’s not practical right now with everyone grinding badges, I’m more in the mood to try and find a healer that’s slightly off their rocker and see just how many heroics we could 2-man!

Where you see a need, I see a want; a want I do not share. Speed runs? Been there done that, I don’t derive any enjoyment from such runs,

I will get the emblems in raids. It will take much longer than running a random heroic a day but the upside is it will allow me time to level a new toon to join the raid Ulduar in blue group.

And for clarity. I believe your goals and wants are neither better nor worse than mine. I did take exception to the “we all need Frost tokens” argument and thus my response.

My apologies. I did not intend to reply to you directly, but to the thread in general. As a guild and raid leader I try to lead by example, and to me that means showing up as prepared for every raid as I possibly can be. In the current iteration of WoW, this does include farming heroics for emblem upgrades. Farming content I’ve done hundreds of times before for me is a neccesary evil, one that we try to make more interesting by upping the difficulty (IE speed pulling and mass pulling).

I understand this isn’t everyone’s cup of tea and certainly respect that.

When I said “we all need” I was referring more to my guild and layers than the WoW comunity as a whole.

Again, my apologies for the confusion.
