Last night was just filled with danger.  We lost three of our raid members to ice storms in Kentucky.  As they were the raid leader(and Main Tank) for the night, a DPS and a healer that kind of put us on hold for a few minutes while we sorted it out.  In the end, we had to pull from our subs list as well as yanking in some other folks.  It worked out just fine, but unlike our typical run, we spent a lot of time just kind of sitting around.

But… Heigan… we had a guy change his AKA* note to reflect how badly he hates Heigan.  For those uninitiated Heigan is a guy who many people hate with good reason.  70% of the time you can DPS semi normally if you are ranged DPS.  If you are melee though, your life is hell all the time.

Ok I feel bad.  Well only a little.  Last night we had one of our DPS warriors respec and off tank.  Since we messed up Heigan the first two times we sat down for the third try.  Now one of the interesting things about Heigan is that you can probably do the fight with two people if you wanted to.  You’ll be there for hours, but you could do it.

With our DPS/Tank Warrior, a Pally healer, and myself, we abused the raid with a 21 minute Heigan kill.  Yes… its extremely painful to watch.  Yes it had a purpose.

  1.  It gave people a good 20 minutes of watching where you run during the safety dance portion of the floor explosion.
  2. It proved to a lot of people you don’t need to worry if you lose a bunch of DPS on the first pass.  In this case we lost 5/6 on the first pass back and forth across the floor.

Would I recommend doing it every day of the week?  No, but occassionally it can be a valuable tool to make people do the dance over and over and over.  When we get to 25 man I suspect the floor explosions will be instantly lethal.  When that happens, you can’t afford to miss, and you’ll have to be ready to do the fight with minimal people alive for a very…. very long time.

*Note:  AKA is a great mod to use if you have a lot of Altoholics in your guild.  You can put a very friendly moniker (or rude one) in your AKA note and anyone with AKA loaded will get an update of every Alt you have (at least the ones they’ve logged into since they installed AKA) along with seeing your moniker next to your name in any chat or guild chat channel.
