Well… we did it. It was a lot shorter road than I thought it would be, but in the end… we downed all of Naxx tonight. I have to hand it to my raid crew. They came, they saw… the kicked some serious butt. Granted we had some adversity in there, but that’s what raiding is about…
The night didn’t start as well as we’d probably like. One of our DPS got locked into a different raid instance. So we had to scrounge for a DPS at the last minute. Due to some hard core begging we got a friend to come and help us out. The raid got a sneak peak of Sapphiron on Wednesday. They saw the fight and all of its phases. They knew they needed 2 pieces of frost resist gear. They knew where to run when. We walked in and one shot him. It was a great great feeling.
Enter Kel’Thuzad. Well here’s where we spent a majority of our time tonight. I explained the fight and we kicked it up pretty easily. Phase one where you are fighting the waves of adds was smooth as glass. We blew through those very nice and easy. We entered phase 2 and well…. the raid leader who had never saw the fight before forgot a few minor details…
- Shadow Fissure kills… bad.
- Frost Blast kills very quickly as it does 104% of your health in 4 seconds.
- Frost Blast chains to targets close to the person pegged with it.
Now… when you fail to mention those minor (ha ha) abilities to the raid, its a very quick way to get at least four of them killed. However even with that, we were able to get him down to 38% on the first attempt. And that was with losing all of the melee DPS on the first attempt in about 1 minute. Reset… try again.
Try two… we swapped tanks and decided our pally tank would handle the adds in phase 2 as well at Kel Thuzad. We had some connection problems so we ended up attempting to 9 man it. Overall… not bad. Made a valiant attempt, but… fell short of the mark again.
Try three… same strategy. Melee DPS is more careful about where they stand. Everyone lines up… close, but at the end with about 3% left, our pally tank just couldn’t take the amount of damage the guardians were dishing out.
This is where we stop.. revamp and think about how to tweak it…. easy. As I was OT for the fight I started by picking up the adds at 40%. I had the pally tank taunt them off of me. Then I DPS’d till we got down to 25%. At this point I pulled one of the adds off. The reason we did it this way was to allow the pally tank to build a huge lead of agro. Then if I got Frost Blasted the add would run right back to the MT. Once we crested the 10% mark I pulled the second add to allow everyone to just burn hard on Kel and just popped all my cool downs to stay alive.
For anyone who doesn’t know, the adds have a stacking buff every 15 seconds that buffs their size, and how hard they hit. So there’s only so long the fight can last after they are engaged before they will just kill the MT or OT.
At the end of the day, Kel’Thuzad is down. The team worked hard for it… and its a great feeling. *SALUTE* Great job team… time to size up the next challenge….Malygos… we’ll be seeing you shortly.

Congrats!
We got KT in one shot, by some miracle, in hind sight. I think the WoW gods just smiled on us, after Sapphirion laid waste to us for a good 45 mins.
The big thing with KT is to position the whole raid properly. Ranged want to stay at max range while staying spread out and have the melee position so that they don’t chain the ice block. Rolling HoTs FTW on those ice blocks. A WG + CoH from your healers will heal most targets for about 30%-40% from the time the iceblock hits. Its just a burden for the healers to have that ready for a quick application. Thanks to smart healing, you don’t even need to hit the right target, just someone close!
